Things to do in Key West

A tropical island with rich artistic and historic roots, and access to a variety of adventures on the water, Key West has plenty to do.
Here’s a few of some of our favorite activities in paradise.

Take a Sunset Sail

The Southernmost Point

The Southernmost Point (at Whitehead and South streets) marks the spot where there are a mere 90 miles between the United States and Cuba. The City of Key West constructed an oversized concrete buoy in 1983 and the landmark has been one of the most photographed places on the island ever since.

Go fish!

It's easy to see why people come fishing here from far and wide. Just take a look at the offshore adventures available along the massive deep water trough just beyond its reef. Then consider wading the uninhabited flats and remote mangroves for the Big 3 of flats fishing (Permit, Bonefish and Tarpon). Whatever you're dreaming of catching USA's southernmost continental point really does have it all.

Eat some Key Lime Pie

There are many places to eat Key Lime Pie in Key West. Our personal favorite Blue Heaven (729 Thomas St.; www.blueheavenkw.com) home of the piled-high meringue. Blue Heaven is located in the funky, historic district’s Bahama Village. For a more traditional Key Lime Pie the locals flock to this charming spot for fresh-made baguettes, sandwiches and pastries, but Old Town Bakery has Key lime pie on the menu, of course. Go to the Beach

Swim, snorkel or just relax at Key West’s best beach - Ft. Zachary Taylor (http://www.fortzacharytaylor.com). Snorkel off the beach and experience rich tropical marine life such as parrot fish, schools of yellowtail snapper, lobster, and various hard and soft corals. Bring a pole and catch dinner off the west rock jetty. Fishing is permitted on the west side of the park along the Key West Shipping Channel. Take a narrated tour of Fort Zachary Taylor and see Civil War cannons and construction.

Scuba Dive

Key West is the best vacation destination for anything tropical, and especially the best for any activity that is in the water. With crystal clear, blue, ocean waters, Key West is the prime location for scuba diving or snorkeling, and conditions usually stay around the same year round. Many charters offer the perfect tour for you can accommodate families with both scuba divers and snorkelers so you can enjoy together.

Epic night life

While The Green Parrot’s (https://www.greenparrot.com) nightly happy hour specials draw all types of crowds, it’s generally more of a locals' place. The bar is more than 125 years old and features live music from acts all over the world. Like a good martini? You are going to want to go to Virgillio’s ( http://latrattoria.us/index.php/virgilios/) a quiet garden bar setting serving some of the best martinis on the island!

Dreams of Paradise.
